What is JBL PartyBoost?

How to use a JBL PartyBoost Bluetooth Speaker

Here’s a basic setup guide that will help you get connected and start using your JBL PartyBoost speakers with your streaming device.

1. Have all your selected Bluetooth speakers nearby, so they are easy to access.
2. Select one Bluetooth speaker you want to connect to your Bluetooth device and pair it. Ensure that it’s connected in your Bluetooth device’ menu.
3. It can be easier to make sure your speakers are linked correctly if you’re playing some music, so you can hear when each speaker is connected. Although, each of the speakers has an LED light ring that lights up to indicate it’s connected.
4. Now take another speaker, power it up, and then press and release the PartyBoost button. Also do this on the first speaker you connected. The LED light ring on the unit will light up and audio should now be playing.
5. Repeat step four until you have all your speakers connected.
6. If you want to disconnect one of the speakers, just press and release the PartyBoost button. The speaker will stop playing and can now be turned off.

Not all JBL Speakers Have PartyBoost

JBL has three different wireless technologies: Connect+, PartyBoost, and TWS (true wireless stereo). While all three allow you to wirelessly connect multiple speakers, they are incompatible with each other.

Connect+ is found in older JBL speakers such as the Boombox, Xtreme 2, Pulse 3, and Charge 4 models. It’s also in some other models that aren’t available for purchase any longer.

PartyBoost is found in newer JBL speakers like the JBL Boombox 3, Xtreme 3, Pulse 4, and Flip 6 models.

Finally, TWS is found in the PartyBox speaker range. These party portable speakers only allow two of each model to be connected.

PartyBoost has improved upon this technology in several ways, including sound quality and connection range. It allows you to easily group different speakers via the JBL portable app, which Connect+ wasn’t able to do.

Connect+ had an average connection range of 30 feet, whereas PartyBoost has a connection range of over 300 feet outdoors and up to 80 feet indoors.

Bear in mind that when using these speakers indoors, wall thickness and material will have an impact on distance. Moreover, appliances and Wi-Fi may affect the connection as well.
